How We Actually Met

People often ask us how we met, perhaps expecting a perfectly cinematic story. The truth is quieter than that—but somehow, it feels even more like us.

It began at a mutual friend’s birthday dinner in Charleston. Joseph arrived early, Daisy arrived a little late, and the only empty seat happened to be between them. What started as a casual introduction quickly became the kind of conversation that makes the rest of the room fade into the background. We talked through dinner, stayed long after dessert, and eventually realized nearly everyone else had already gone home.

A few days later, Daisy suggested coffee. That coffee turned into a walk, the walk became dinner, and neither of us seemed ready for the evening to end. There was no dramatic declaration or perfectly planned moment—just an easy feeling that being together made sense.

Over time, our story grew through hundreds of ordinary moments: slow Sunday mornings, spontaneous road trips, long walks by the water, missed turns, shared playlists, and conversations that lasted far too late into the night. We learned that love is not only found in life’s biggest occasions. More often, it lives in the small things—in knowing how the other takes his coffee, reaching for the same hand without thinking, and finding home wherever we happen to be together.

Looking back, it still amazes us that one empty seat at a crowded table could quietly change the direction of both our lives.

And now, as we prepare to stand beside each other and say “I do,” we feel incredibly grateful—not only for the day we met, but for every choice, coincidence, and ordinary moment that brought us here.
